Like many people, much of what I knew about the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History was learned from the movie Night at the Museum. This was actually my main motivation for seeing it when Husband and I visited Washington DC as chaperones for my school’s 8th grade class! You can even do a two-hour self-guided “Night at the Museum Tour.” Unfortunately, we did not have two hours — not even close. As soon as we walked in, we decided to each choose an area we wanted to see and go directly to those.
Not surprisingly, I chose the Hall of Gems and Hall of Minerals. I have always been fascinated by geology — even took a geology class in college just for fun — and these halls house the Hope Diamond. Unfortunately, the Hope Diamond exhibit was temporarily closed that day, but we saw some pretty cool gems nonetheless. The aquamarine was especially beautiful in real life!
