Slowing down this Sunday was required, after a busy week and two feistier-than-normal nights out this weekend. Late in the morning we headed out to Pine Island, just to the west of Cape Coral. Even though it’s only about a 20 minute drive, I had never been there by car, and only once by boat.
There’s not a whole lot to see in Pine Island … and I kind of like that about it. There are pine trees of course, which is something I miss from Georgia, and nice long stretches of 55mph road for Sunday driving. Most of the island is just road and trees, with some palm tree nurseries and the occasional house or two. We drove all the way to the end of the island, thinking there might be a park or pier there, but there is just a turn around, with a couple of red square signs so you don’t accidentally drive off into the ocean.
We stopped at Woody’s Island Rum and Grille on the way back. It’s named after the owners’ dog, and there was a super cute story about him on the back of the menu. My ahi tuna wrap was great, and they have some damn good sweet potato fries and waterside seating. What’s not to love about that?
There may not be a whole lot to see on Pine Island, but I was okay with that. We enjoyed the drive and the time away from the beachy, touristy bustle of many of the other spots around us. Heading back soon for sure.
Happy Sunday, y’all! Rest and enjoy!
