Anyone out there getting ready for the Big Game coming up at the beginning of February? Although I love watching football at a restaurant or sports bar, that particular Sunday is usually not a good time because you have to fight the crowds for a good table and whatnot. Plus, there’s something kind of nice about just enjoying the game (and more importantly, the stellar new commercials) from the comfort of your own couch, especially if your friends are coming over. If you’re thinking about taking it to the house this year for the Big Game, I’ve got some fun football party ideas to share today!
I stopped by Walmart this week and picked up a few items for watching the upcoming football games: 6-packs of Coca-Cola Classic, Coke Zero, and RITZ® Crackers. Right now you can even save some money on Coca-Cola because the 500ml 6-packs are two for $5!
Since we just got back from Georgia, I wanted to put a little “southern” spin on our snacks. Have you all seen the amazing “topped” RITZ® Crackers on their website and Pinterest page? Such a fun way to create some unique appetizers! For mine, I kept it classic southern with a Pimiento Cheese Dip topping. It was super easy, and it brings back memories of Georgia — pimiento cheese is everything there.
This dip was really easy to make. You’ll need cream cheese, shredded cheddar, mayo, garlic powder, a jar of pimientos, and a little salt and pepper.
Toss all that stuff in your mixing bowl and turn it on. Seriously, that’s it. Done.
Scoop it into a nice clean bowl and serve with the RITZ® Crackers, or for an even more grab-n-go type of appetizer, top each RITZ® Cracker with a little spoonful of the pimiento cheese dip. You’ll definitely score with your biggest fans, since they can grab one and enjoy a snack without even having to look away from the screen!
- RITZ® Crackers
- 8 ounce package of cream cheese
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 4 oz jar diced pimiento, drained
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Add all ingredients (except RITZ® Crackers) to a mixing bowl.
- Mix on low for 1-2 minutes, until all ingredients are combined well.
- Scoop into serving bowl and serve with RITZ® Crackers OR top each cracker with a spoonful of dip for easy grab-n-go appetizers.
- Top with another RITZ® Cracker to make a RITZ-wich!
Besides the base for the platter, you’ll need chalkboard paint, a brush, some glue, a chalk pen or piece of chalk, matching paper tape, and something heavy to weight it down for flattening.
Begin by painting the board. I used the unfinished side of the cardboard so that the paint would adhere better. Try to use even, smooth strokes with the paint, and use just enough to cover the surface. Let it dry for a few hours.
To make the platter thicker, I glued two more pieces of the same cardboard bases to the back of the dry, painted one. Then I weighted it down with heavy stuff to make sure the glue stuck and to flatten in out. (The painted one bowed a little from the moisture of the paint while it was drying.)
Then, I applied the tape around the edges to give it a finished feel. I found this awesome black-and-white striped tape that reminded me of a referee shirt — perfect!
When that’s all done, it’s time to draw on the plays. You don’t have to be neat about it — you want it to look realistic, after all. Just draw on some plays and let it dry. When it’s totally dry, lay out the pimiento cheese-topped RITZ® Crackers on your new serving platter!
Everything looked so cute all set up on our patio, and it has finally stopped raining long enough for us to be able to enjoy some time outside. Finally! Southwest Florida in the winter is so beautiful, and we try to take advantage of that whenever we can.
The pimiento cheese dip recipe, plenty of Coca-Cola, and my cute new platter will all be ready at our house for the big game for sure. What about y’all?
