As a teacher, the Friday before Halloween is a little bit crazy. Imagine the chaos of your own child wearing a blow-up T-Rex costume and consuming loads of candy, excitement for the upcoming trick-or-treating pouring out of him in waves. Then, multiply that by about 120 kids in the exact same situation, all in one building. Learning on the Friday before Halloween is about as impossible as getting your child to eat only two pieces of Halloween candy a day. Let’s be real — it’s just not going to happen. Might as well enjoy the sugar-fueled ride, ya know?
That was totally me this past Friday. Y’all know I teach eighth grade, but “teach” was not exactly how I would describe what I did Friday. “Survive” is more like it. But I did survive, and I even managed to enjoy it a little! I planned a light lesson day, since I knew first period would be interrupted by the annual lower school costume parade and the period after lunch would still be wound up from the exploding pumpkin science display. (<– You’re jealous of my work day, aren’t you? I knew it.) And since I figured the kids would have plenty of sugar to get through the day, I wisely prepared myself in the morning.
I swapped out my normal black coffee for a fun fall drink: Peanut Butter Cup Hot Chocolate. It’s super easy to make, and with Dixie® To Go cups, I can take it with me when I’m headed out the door to school! The leak-resistant lid and insulated layer is perfect for keeping my drink hot while I’m on the go. Plus, when I get home after a long (and I mean loooooong) Friday at school, there’s no effort, no clean up, and no worries. I don’t have to remember to bring a mug home to wash, so I can focus on relaxing with my hubby and getting ready for neighborhood trick-or-treaters.
If you’re looking for the perfect drink to sip while you’re passing out candy tomorrow, try this easy recipe for Peanut Butter Cup Hot Chocolate!
You will need the following ingredients to make two drinks:
- Dixie® To Go cups
- 8 oz whipped topping
- 3 T peanut butter
- 1/2 cup peanut butter cups, unwrapped
- 2 hot chocolate mix packets
Start by combining the whipped topping and peanut butter in a bowl. Then, use a whisk to mix the peanut butter into the whipped topping.
Put the peanut butter cups in a plastic bag and crush them up. Both of these steps can be done ahead of time — just store the whipped peanut butter topping and crushed peanut butter cups in the fridge until you’re ready to use them.
Next, mix up the hot chocolate according to package directions, and pour it into your Dixie® To Go cups.
Add a dollop of whipped peanut butter topping to each cup, making sure you don’t overfill the cup. Last, add a spoonful of crushed peanut butter cups to the top, and enjoy!
If you’re headed out the door to work or planning to sit in your driveway and pass out Halloween candy, just pop the lid on and go!
This delicious drink was just what I needed to get through Friday at school with a smile on my face, and being able to take it with me in a Dixie® To Go cup made life so much easier. I had fun checking out all the creative costumes, I handed out some candy, and I even let my kids have a ten-minute dance party after they finished their activity. Not gonna lie — I felt like I was crushing it!
I hope you all have a wonderful Halloween!
