With its laid-back vibe, the 12 South neighborhood was my favorite of our trip. It really had everything you could want within walking distance: cute little shops, amazing food, and even a coffee/breakfast spot. It was also where we stayed, which was a happy coincidence for sure. The house we rented was about a ten minute walk to all the shops, although we drove two out of three times because it was so dang hot out.
We ate dinner at Taqueria Del Sol and then another day ate lunch at Burger Up in 12 South. I do love Taqueria Del Sol, and I used to go to the one in Atlanta often. Great food, but it is a chain. Burger Up was just the bomb. I got the Ramsey Pimento Cheese Burger with sweet potato fries and a sangria. I would have taken a photo, but I got so excited when it arrived that I wolfed it down before the thought occurred to me. Oops. After that burger, I needed a giant nap, but it was totally worth it.
There was also a little farmer’s market there both times we went. I can totally imagine living there and walking down to pick out some fresh produce for Husband to cook for dinner. I miss that city-neighborhood vibe, which we had in Atlanta but don’t really have in Florida now. One morning we even woke up and walked to The Frothy Monkey for a hipster bagel breakfast and iced coffee.
Anyhoo, 12 South is definitely worth a stop! Try the pimento burger — you won’t regret it. Okay, maybe you will, but you will enjoy it while eating at least…
