Since we put up our tree this past weekend, it’s really beginning to feel like the holiday season, and I am loving it! Every day as soon as I get home from work, I turn on the tree lights and smile. I’ve also started to find holiday cards in the mail! Putting up our Christmas tree (which is actually the same tree I had as a little kid) and receiving Christmas cards are two of my favorite traditions.
While I was at Walmart the other day, I picked up a few cards of my own for special occasions during the holidays. Hallmark greeting cards are an easy way to make sure your friends and loved ones feel special. Any day is a good day to send someone a Hallmark card, but there are even some special holiday ones! I chose a “thank you” holiday card, which I will probably give to our pool guys. They work hard all year long!
I also grabbed one for our friends, just to remind them how much we love ’em. We’ve been out of town a lot, and they have watched our dog, picked us up from the airport, and put up with our frequent absences lately, so they deserve a card for sure.
And of course, I picked one up for Husband. This Disney one was absolutely perfect since we are huge fans of The Mouse, and the words are spot-on. He makes me feel like every day is Christmas!
To hang up some of our special Hallmark greeting cards, and the ones starting to come in the mail, I decided to make a quick and easy card display. I think it turned out great, and the only thing I had to purchase was the ribbon and mini clothespins! Here’s how I did it:
You will need the following supplies:
- ribbon, 2 kinds
- mini clothespins
- several very small finishing nails
Start by decorating the mini clothespins so that they can dry. Dump out a little pile of glitter in a box lid or paper plate. Contain the mess!
Paint one side of the mini clothespin with glue, and then dip it gently in the glitter pile to coat.
Do the same with the rest of the mini clothespins and allow to dry completely.
Choose a large vertical wall space for your display, and carefully nail one piece of ribbon to the wall in a zigzag pattern. Just lightly tap in the nail part of the way — it doesn’t have to hold much weight, and you don’t want to create all kinds of giant holes in your wall!
Tie the other kind of ribbon into little bows, one for every nail you placed.
Glue the bows onto the corners of the ribbon with a tiny bit of glue, or just hang them on the nails like I did.
When your mini clothespins are dry, use them to clip your cards to the display! So easy!
When we were over at our friends’ house for Sunday dinner, I helped them decorate their tree too. Don’t have to ask me twice! My friend was showing me all the special Hallmark Ornaments that they get from family each year. Every ornament commemorates something special about the year, and it is definitely a tradition I want to start! There is aHallmark Ornament for just about anything you can think of, I swear.
While I was at Walmart picking up the Hallmark cards, I also spotted some Hallmark Ornaments near the front of the store. To commemorate our second Christmas together, and our first year as Disney season passholders, I chose a Mickey and Minnie ornament for our own tree. I love that the box has the year too, where I can store it for safe keeping when I take the tree down. I’d love to start our own ornament tradition!
I couldn’t help but grab the Abominable Snowman ornament too! Isn’t he the cutest? I used to watch that holiday special every year with my grandparents, so this ornament brings back some memories of childhood.
And then I saw the ornament from A Christmas Story. It’s a favorite for my dad and me, and we watch it every year. (In fact, Husband and I are going to see it as a play for my birthday this weekend!) The iconic “Major Award” lamp ornament even plays sound bites from the film when you press a button. This will be part of my dad’s gift this year — shhhh!
I love that the Hallmark Ornaments come in adorable boxes, and that they are collectible. They are truly the perfect gift!
