On our most recent Disney trip, we were joined by two friends from Savannah who convinced us to try a round of golf at one of the Disney courses. Even though we’re definitely NOT golfers, it’s hard for us to turn down a cool Disney experience. We brought along my golf clubs, a bunch of extra balls (that we would soon lose in the water, woods, and who knows where else), and lots of H2O.
The course is located by the resorts, but we didn’t have to pay for parking because we told the parking attendant we were headed to golf and he waved us through. The clubhouse had a fun Mickey-themed golf cart in the front and tons of Disney golf souvenirs for purchase inside.
The carts were not like the themed one in the front, but they were awfully nice. They had interactive screens inside (with a Chip and Dale theme!), and they were stocked with tees, a cooler, and ice.
The course itself was gorgeous! I kind of expected that, but it was so green and lovely, and there were small Mickey hints throughout but not over-the-top-mouseified. Each tee had a sign telling about the history and fun facts associated with it, and there were several snack and bathroom breaks around the course.
I have to say though, this course is NOT for beginners. The water hazards and sand bunkers were pretty serious, and the tee times are stacked very close together. If you don’t keep up, a man on a cart will come up and ask you to hurry up! It happened to us after just a few holes, and then he kind of stuck around watching, which made me play even worse.
I would also advise that you not choose July 4th weekend because it is freaking HOT. We started early in the morning, but after about 3 hours, we were done. I’d also suggest booking 9 holes instead of 18. We were signed up for 18, but it was all we could do to get through the 9. We would have been there all day! And gotten heat stroke, most likely!
Despite the heat and the nerve-wracking cart guy, we enjoyed our round of Disney golf, and I’m glad we gave it a try. It’s definitely worth a shot (<– pun intended) but pick a cooler time of year!
